Job 40
Will the Faultfinder Contend with the Almighty?
The LORD answered Job and said:
“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?
Let the one who argues with God answer it.”
Job Answers Briefly
Then Job answered the LORD and said:
“Look, I am small. What can I answer you?
I put my hand over my mouth.
Once I have spoken, and I will not answer;
twice, and I will add no more.”
The LORD Answers Again from the Storm
Then the LORD answered Job from the storm and said:
“Gird up your waist like a man;
I will question you,
and you make me know.
Will you really annul my justice?
Will you condemn me
so that you may be righteous?
Do you have an arm like God?
Can you thunder with a voice like his?
Clothe Yourself with Majesty
Adorn yourself now with majesty and exaltation;
clothe yourself with glory and splendor.
Pour out the overflowing of your anger;
see everyone proud and bring him low.
See everyone proud and humble him;
tread down the wicked where they stand.
Hide them together in the dust;
bind their faces in the hidden place.
Then even I will praise you,
that your own right hand can save you.
Look at Behemoth
Look now at Behemoth,
which I made with you.
It eats grass like an ox.
Look at its strength in its loins
and its power in the muscles of its belly.
It makes its tail stiff like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are knit together.
Its bones are tubes of bronze;
its limbs like bars of iron.
It is the first of the ways of God;
its Maker alone can bring near his sword.
For the mountains yield food for it,
where all the wild animals play.
Under lotus plants it lies,
in the shelter of reeds and marsh.
Lotus plants cover it with their shade;
willows of the wadi surround it.
Look, if the river surges, it does not panic;
it is confident though the Jordan rushes against its mouth.
Can one take it by its eyes
or pierce its nose with snares?
