Shared Word Translation

Ezekiel 7

The word of the LORD came to me, saying,

"As for you, son of man, thus says the LORD GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. Now the end is upon you, and I will send my anger on you. I will judge you according to your ways, and I will place all your abominations against you. My eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity. I will repay your ways upon you, and your abominations will be in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD."

Thus says the LORD GOD: A disaster, a unique disaster, behold, it is coming! An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it is coming! Doom has come upon you, dweller in the land. The time has come; the day is near. There is tumult and not joyful shouting on the mountains. Now I will shortly pour out my wrath upon you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways, and I will repay you for all your abominations. My eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity. I will make your ways upon you, and your abominations will be in your midst. Then you will know that I, the LORD, strike.

Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! Doom has gone forth. The rod has blossomed; arrogance has budded. Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, none of their multitude, none of their wealth, nor anything eminent among them.

The time has come; the day has drawn near. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is against all their multitude. For the seller shall not return to what he has sold while they live, for the vision is against all their multitude. It shall not turn back, and no one shall preserve their life in their iniquity.

They have blown the trumpet and prepared everything, but none goes to battle, for my wrath is against all their multitude. The sword is outside, and the plague and famine are inside. Whoever is in the field will die by the sword, and whoever is in the city, famine and plague will consume them. But those who escape of them shall escape and be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each for his iniquity. All hands will be feeble, and all knees will flow with water. They will wear sackcloth, and trembling will cover them. Shame will be on all their faces, and baldness on all their heads. They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold will be like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. They will not satisfy their souls, nor fill their stomachs, for it has become a stumbling block of their iniquity.

As for the beauty of their ornaments, they set it for pride, and they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things in it. Therefore, I have made it an unclean thing to them. I will give it into the hands of foreigners as spoil and to the wicked of the earth as plunder, and they will profane it. I will turn my face from them, and they will profane my treasured place. Robbers will come into it and profane it.

"Forge a chain, for the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence. So I will bring the worst of the nations, and they shall possess their houses. I will end the pride of the mighty, and their holy places will be profaned.

Anguish comes, and they will seek peace, but there will be none.

Disaster upon disaster will come, and rumor shall be upon rumor. They will seek a vision from the prophet, but the law will perish from the priest and counsel from the elders. The king will mourn, and the prince will be clothed with desolation. The hands of the people of the land will tremble. According to their way, I will deal with them, and by their judgments, I will judge them. Then they shall know that I am the LORD."
