Ezekiel 7
The end has come
The word of the LORD came to me:
“And you, son of man—this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel:
An end! The end has come
to the four corners of the land.
Now the end is upon you.
I will unleash my anger against you,
judge you by your ways,
and bring all your abominations back upon you.
My eye will not spare you;
I will show no pity.
I will bring your ways back upon you,
and your abominations will remain among you.
Then you will know that I am the LORD.
“This is what the Lord GOD says:
Disaster—a singular disaster!
Look, it is coming.
An end has come;
the end has come!
It has awakened against you.
Look, it is coming.
Doom has come to you who live in the land.
The time has come; the day is near—
tumult, not joyful shouts on the mountains.
Very soon I will pour out my fury on you
and spend my anger against you.
I will judge you by your ways
and bring all your abominations back upon you.
My eye will not spare;
I will show no pity.
I will repay you according to your ways,
and your abominations will remain among you.
Then you will know that I am the LORD who strikes.
The day arrives
Look—the day! Look, it comes!
Doom has gone out.
The rod has budded;
arrogance has blossomed.
Violence has risen into a rod of wickedness.
None of them will remain,
none of their multitude, none of their wealth,
nothing of distinction among them.
The time has come; the day has arrived.
Let the buyer not rejoice
or the seller mourn,
for wrath is upon the whole multitude.
The seller will not return to what was sold, even if both remain alive. The vision against the whole multitude will not be reversed. No one will hold on to life through their guilt.
They have sounded the trumpet
and made everything ready,
but no one goes to battle,
for my wrath is upon the whole multitude.
Outside is the sword;
inside are plague and famine.
Whoever is in the field will die by the sword;
whoever is in the city, famine and plague will devour.
Those who escape will flee to the mountains,
like doves from the valleys,
all of them moaning,
each over their own guilt.
Every hand will hang limp,
and every knee will run with water.
They will put on sackcloth,
and trembling will cover them.
Every face will be ashamed,
every head shaved bare.
Wealth that cannot save
They will throw their silver into the streets and treat their gold as something unclean. Their silver and gold cannot rescue them on the day of the LORD’s fury. It cannot satisfy their appetite or fill their stomachs, for it became the stumbling block of their guilt.
They made their beautiful ornaments a source of pride and fashioned from them their abominable images, their detestable things. So I have made that treasure unclean to them.
I will hand it over to foreigners as plunder, to the wicked of the earth as loot, and they will profane it.
I will turn my face away from them. They will profane my treasured place; violent men will enter it and profane it.
“Make the chain!
The land is full of bloodstained judgments,
and the city is full of violence.
I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will take possession of their houses. I will end the pride of the strong, and their sanctuaries will be profaned.
Anguish is coming.
They will look for peace,
but there will be none.
Disaster will follow disaster,
report will follow report.
They will seek a vision from a prophet,
but instruction will vanish from the priest
and counsel from the elders.
The king will mourn,
the prince will put on desolation,
and the hands of the people of the land will shake.
I will deal with them according to their ways
and judge them by their own judgments.
Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
