Ezekiel 27
It came about that the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
"Now, you, son of man, lift up a lamentation over Tyre.
Say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrances of the sea, who trades with the peoples in many coastlands, 'Thus says the LORD GOD: Tyre, you have said, "I am perfect in beauty." In the heart of the seas are your borders. Your builders have perfected your beauty.
They made all your planks of cypress from Senir. They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you. They made your oars of oaks from Bashan. They made your deck of inlaid ivory from the coasts of Kittim. Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail, serving as your banner; blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah covered you.
Inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your skilled men, O Tyre, were among you; they were your pilots. The elders of Gebal and its skilled men were in you, caulking your seams. All the ships of the sea with their sailors were among you to carry your merchandise.
Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army; they hung shield and helmet in you; they gave you your splendor. The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls all around, and the Gammadites were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.
Tarshish traded with you because of your great wealth of all kinds; silver, iron, tin, and lead they exchanged for your merchandise. Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your merchants, exchanging human beings and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. From the house of Togarmah they gave you horses, war horses, and mules for your wares. The men of Dedan were your traders; many coastlands were your own agents; ivory and ebony they brought as your payment. Aram traded with you due to the abundance of your goods; with emeralds, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies they exchanged for your wares. Judah and the land of Israel were your traders; they exchanged wheat from Minnith, confections, honey, oil, and resin for your merchandise. Damascus traded with you because of the abundance of your goods and all your wealth, with wine from Helbon and white wool. Vedan and Javan from Uzal exchanged wrought iron, cassia, and calamus for your merchandise. Dedan was your merchant in saddlecloths for riding. Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were agents doing business with you in lambs, rams, and goats. The traders of Sheba and Raamah were your merchants; they traded in all kinds of spices, stones of value, and gold for your goods. Haran, Canneh, and Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. These were your merchants in splendid apparel, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, in cords, firmly twisted, and secured in your market.
The ships of Tarshish were your carriers for your merchandise; you were filled and heavily laden in the heart of the seas. Your rowers have brought you into great waters; the east wind has shattered you in the heart of the seas. Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, your pilots, those repairing your seams, and all your warriors who are in you, along with all your company in your midst, will fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall.
At the sound of the cry of your pilots, the countryside will shake. All who handle the oar, the mariners, all the pilots of the sea, will come down from their ships; they will stand on the land, and they will make their voice heard over you and cry out bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and wallow in ashes. They will make themselves bald for you and gird themselves with sackcloth; they will weep over you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning. In their wailing they will take up a lamentation for you and lament over you: "Who is like Tyre, silent and destroyed in the midst of the sea?"
When your wares went out from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; you enriched the kings of the earth with your great wealth and merchandise.
Now you are shattered by the seas in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your company have fallen in your midst.
All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled at you, and their kings shudder with horror, their faces are distorted. The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have become a horror and shall be no more forever.'"
