Ezekiel 28

The word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: Thus says the LORD GOD:
Because your heart has become proud,
and you have said, ‘I am a god;
I sit in the seat of gods
in the heart of the seas,’
though you are human and not a god,
you have made your heart like the heart of a god.

Look, you are wiser than Daniel;
no secret is hidden from you.

By your wisdom and your understanding
you have gained wealth for yourself
and stored gold and silver in your treasuries.

By your great wisdom in your trading
you have increased your wealth,
and your heart has become proud because of your wealth.

Therefore thus says the LORD GOD:
Because you have made your heart
like the heart of a god,

therefore, look, I am bringing strangers against you,
the most ruthless of nations.
They will draw their swords
against the beauty of your wisdom,
and they will profane your splendor.

They will bring you down to the pit,
and you will die the deaths of the slain
in the heart of the seas.

Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’
before the one who kills you?
But you are human and not a god
in the hand of those who wound you.

You will die the deaths of the uncircumcised
by the hand of strangers,
for I have spoken,
declares the LORD GOD.”

The word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, raise a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him: Thus says the LORD GOD:

You were in Eden, the garden of God;
every precious stone was your covering:
ruby, topaz, and diamond;
beryl, onyx, and jasper;
sapphire, turquoise, and emerald;
and gold.
The workmanship of your tambourines and your settings
was prepared in you
on the day you were created.
You were an anointed cherub who covered;
I placed you on the holy mountain of God.
You walked about
among stones of fire.
You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created,
until injustice was found in you.
Through the abundance of your trade
your midst was filled with violence, and you sinned.
So I cast you out as profane from the mountain of God,
and I destroyed you, covering cherub,
from among the stones of fire.
Your heart became proud because of your beauty;
you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.
I threw you to the earth;
I set you before kings
for them to gaze at you.
By the abundance of your iniquities,
by the injustice of your trade,
you profaned your sanctuaries.
So I brought out fire from your midst;
it consumed you.
I made you ashes upon the earth
before the eyes of all who saw you.
All who knew you among the peoples
are appalled at you.
You have become a horror,
and you will be no more forever.”

The word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against her.

Say: Thus says the LORD GOD:
Look, I am against you, Sidon,
and I will be glorified in your midst.
They will know that I am the LORD
when I execute judgments in her
and show myself holy through her.

For I will send plague into her,
and blood into her streets.
The slain will fall in her midst,
as the sword comes against her from every side.
Then they will know that I am the LORD.

There will no longer be for the house of Israel
a malignant briar or a painful thorn
from all those around them who despise them.
Then they will know that I am the LORD GOD.

Thus says the LORD GOD: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they have been scattered, and show myself holy through them before the eyes of the nations, then they will live on their land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.

They will live there securely. They will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live securely when I execute judgments on all around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.”
