Ezekiel 26

Now it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the first of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

"Son of man, because Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, 'Aha! The gateway of the peoples is broken; it has turned to me; I shall be filled, she that is laid waste,'

therefore thus says the LORD GOD: Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

They will destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers; I will also scrape her debris from her and make her a bare rock.

She will be a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, declares the LORD GOD, and she shall become spoil for the nations.

Also her daughters who are in the field will be slain by the sword, and they will know that I am the LORD."

For thus says the LORD GOD: "Behold, I will bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the north, king of kings, with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a vast company and many people.

He will slay your daughters on the field with the sword, and he will set siege works against you, build a ramp against you, and raise a protective shield against you.

He will direct the thrust of battering rams against your walls, and with his weapons he will break down your towers.

From the abundance of his horses, their dust will cover you; your walls will shake at the noise of the cavalry, wagons, and chariots, when he enters your gates as men enter a breached city.

With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will kill your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground.

They will plunder your riches and seize your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; your stones, wood, and debris they will throw into the water.

I will cause the noise of your songs to cease, and the sound of your harps will no longer be heard.

I will make you a bare rock; you will be a place for spreading nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the LORD, have spoken, declares the LORD GOD.

Thus says the LORD GOD to Tyre: Shall not the coastlands tremble at the sound of your downfall, when the wounded groan, and the massacre occurs in your midst?

Then all the princes of the sea will step down from their thrones, lay aside their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments. They will put on trembling; they will sit on the ground, tremble every moment, and be appalled at you.

They will take up a lamentation for you and say to you, 'How you have perished, inhabited from the seas, O city renowned, who was strong on the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be on all her inhabitants!

Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall; yes, the coastlands that are in the sea will be alarmed at your departure.'"

For thus says the LORD GOD: "When I make you a desolated city, like cities that are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you and the great waters cover you,

then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you dwell in the lower parts of the earth, like the ancient ruins, with those who go down to the pit, so you will not be inhabited; but I will set glory in the land of the living.

I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more; you will be sought, but you will never be found again, declares the LORD GOD."
