2 Thessalonians 1
Greeting and Thanksgiving
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, as is fitting, because your trust is growing greatly and the love of each one of you for one another is increasing. Therefore we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches because of your endurance and trust in all your persecutions and the afflictions you are bearing.
God’s Righteous Judgment
This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, so that you may be considered worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you are also suffering. For it is righteous with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his powerful angels in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news of our Lord Jesus. They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction away from the Lord’s presence and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified among his holy ones and marveled at among all who trusted—because our testimony to you was trusted.
A Prayer for Worthy Calling
For this reason we always pray for you, that our God may consider you worthy of the calling and fulfill every desire for goodness and every work of trust with power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
