2 Thessalonians 2
Do Not Be Quickly Shaken
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, brothers and sisters, we ask you not to be quickly shaken from your mind or alarmed, whether by a spirit, a spoken message, or a letter supposedly from us, claiming that the Lord’s day has arrived. Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he seats himself in God’s temple, presenting himself as God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you I kept telling you these things?
The Mystery of Lawlessness
And now you know what restrains him so that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the one who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. The lawless one’s coming is according to Satan’s working, with every kind of power, false signs and wonders, and every kind of unrighteous deception among those who are perishing, because they did not welcome the love of the truth so that they might be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they trust the lie, so that all may be judged who did not trust the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.
Stand Firm
But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits for salvation through holiness by the Spirit and trust in the truth. He called you to this through our good news, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by our spoken word or by our letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.
