Romans 5
Peace with God
Therefore, since we have been set right through trust, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also gained access into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. Not only that, but we also boast in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces tested character, and tested character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Rarely will someone die for a righteous person, though perhaps for a good person someone might even dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, now that we have been set right by his blood, we will be saved through him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, will we be saved by his life. And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Adam and Christ
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one human being, and death through sin, so death spread to all people because all sinned— for sin was in the world before the Law, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s transgression. Adam is a pattern of the one who was to come.
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the trespass of one person, how much more did God’s grace and the gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! And the gift is not like what came through the one person who sinned. Judgment from one trespass led to condemnation, but the gift after many trespasses led to setting right. For if death reigned through the one man because of that one man’s trespass, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Therefore, just as one trespass led to condemnation for all people, so one righteous act leads to setting right and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of one human being the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one the many will be made righteous.
The Law came in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more, so that just as sin reigned in death, grace might also reign through righteousness, leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
