Romans 4
The Promise Comes Through Trust
For the promise that Abraham or his offspring would inherit the world did not come through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who depend on the Law are heirs, faith has been emptied and the promise nullified. For the Law produces wrath; but where there is no Law, neither is there transgression. For this reason the promise comes through faith, so that it may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring—not only to those who depend on the Law but also to those who share Abraham's faith. He is the father of us all, as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of the God he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that do not exist.
