Romans 12

A Living Sacrifice

1Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by God’s mercies, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your fitting worship. 2Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what God’s will is—what is good, pleasing, and complete.

Many Members, One Body

3By the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of trust God has assigned. 4For just as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, 5so we who are many are one body in Christ and individually belong to one another. 6We have different gifts according to the grace given to us: if prophecy, use it according to the proportion of trust; 7if service, in serving; if teaching, in teaching; 8if encouragement, in encouraging; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who leads, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Love Without Hypocrisy

9Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Love one another with family affection. Take the lead in honoring one another. 11Do not become lazy in diligence. Be fervent in spirit. Serve the Lord. 12Rejoice in hope, endure affliction, persist in prayer. 13Share in the needs of the holy ones; pursue hospitality.

14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the lowly. Do not become wise in your own estimation. 17Repay no one evil for evil. Give careful thought to what is good in the sight of everyone. 18If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” 20Instead,
“If your enemy is hungry, feed them;
if they are thirsty, give them something to drink.
For by doing this you will heap burning coals on their head.” 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
