Psalm 60

O God, you have rejected us, broken through us; you were angry—restore us. You have made the earth tremble; you have split it open. Heal its fractures, for it is shaking.

You have shown your people harsh things; you have given us wine to drink that makes us stagger. You have set up a banner for those who fear you, to be lifted up because of truth. Selah.

That your beloved ones may be delivered, save with your right hand, and answer us.

God has spoken in his holiness: "I will exult, I will divide Shechem, and measure out the Valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter. Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I throw my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph."

Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? Have you not, O God, cast us off? And you do not go out with our armies, O God?

Grant us help against the foe, for human deliverance is worthless. In God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
