Psalm 58
Indeed, are you silent, you gods?
Do you judge fairly, you children of humankind?
Even from the heart you work injustice;
your hands weigh out violence on the earth.
The wicked go astray from the womb;
they are liars from birth.
Their venom is like the venom of a snake;
like a deaf adder that closes its ears,
unable to hear the sound of charmers,
of a skilled enchanter.
O God, break the teeth in their mouths;
tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
Let them vanish like water that runs away;
when he aims his arrows, let them be cut off.
Like a snail that melts as it moves,
like a stillborn child who never sees the sun,
before your pots can feel the heat of thorns—
whether green or burning—he will sweep them away.
The righteous will be glad when they behold vengeance;
they will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.
And people will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
surely there is a God who judges on earth."
