Psalm 37

Of David.

Do not burn with anger because of evildoers;
do not be envious of those who do wrong.
For like grass they will quickly wither;
like green plants they will fade away.

Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and tend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Roll your way upon the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness like the light,
your justice like the noonday.

Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him.
Do not burn with anger at one who prospers in his way,
at one who carries out schemes.
Let go of anger and abandon wrath;
do not burn with anger—it leads only to evil.
For evildoers will be cut off,
but those who wait for the LORD will inherit the land.
Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more;
you will look carefully at their place, and they will not be there.
But the humble will inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

The wicked plots against the righteous
and grinds his teeth at him.
The Lord laughs at him,
for he sees that his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn the sword
and bent their bow,
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slaughter those upright in their way.
Their sword will enter their own heart,
and their bows will be broken.

Better is the little that belongs to the righteous
than the abundance of many wicked people.
For the arms of the wicked will be broken,
but the LORD upholds the righteous.
The LORD knows the days of the blameless,
and their inheritance will endure forever.
They will not be put to shame in a time of evil;
in days of famine they will be satisfied.
But the wicked will perish,
and the enemies of the LORD,
like the glory of pasturelands, will vanish;
in smoke they will vanish.

The wicked borrows and does not repay,
but the righteous is gracious and gives.
For those blessed by him will inherit the land,
but those cursed by him will be cut off.
From the LORD a person's steps are established,
and he delights in that person's way.
Though one falls, one will not be thrown down,
for the LORD supports their hand.

I was young, and now I am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned,
or their children begging for bread.
All day long they are gracious and lend,
and their children are a blessing.

Turn away from evil and do good,
and dwell forever.
For the LORD loves justice
and does not abandon his faithful ones.
They are kept forever,
but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.
The righteous will inherit the land
and dwell upon it forever.

The mouth of the righteous murmurs wisdom,
and their tongue speaks justice.
The instruction of their God is in their heart;
their steps do not slip.
The wicked watches the righteous
and seeks to put them to death.
The LORD will not abandon them to his hand
or condemn them when they are judged.

Wait for the LORD and keep his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
I have seen a ruthless wicked person,
spreading himself out like a flourishing native tree.
Then he passed away, and look—he was no more;
I sought him, but he could not be found.

Observe the blameless and look upon the upright,
for there is a future for the person of peace.
But transgressors will all be destroyed;
the future of the wicked will be cut off.
The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in a time of distress.
The LORD helps them and rescues them;
he rescues them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
