The Camps Around the Tent of Meeting
The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “The Israelites will camp, each by their own standard, with the banners of their ancestral houses. They will camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance.
The Camp of Judah
Those camping on the east side, toward the sunrise, will be under the standard of the camp of Judah by their divisions. The leader of the Judahites will be Nahshon son of Amminadab, and his division, those counted, seventy-four thousand six hundred. Those camping next to him will be the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the Issacharites will be Nethanel son of Zuar, and his division, those counted, fifty-four thousand four hundred. Then the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the Zebulunites will be Eliab son of Helon, and his division, those counted, fifty-seven thousand four hundred. All those counted of the camp of Judah were one hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred by their divisions. They will set out first.
The Camp of Reuben
On the south side will be the standard of the camp of Reuben by their divisions. The leader of the Reubenites will be Elizur son of Shedeur, and his division, those counted, forty-six thousand five hundred. Those camping next to him will be the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the Simeonites will be Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai, and his division, those counted, fifty-nine thousand three hundred. Then the tribe of Gad. The leader of the Gadites will be Eliasaph son of Reuel, and his division, those counted, forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. All those counted of the camp of Reuben were one hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred fifty by their divisions. They will set out second.
The Tent of Meeting in the Center
Then the Tent of Meeting will set out, with the camp of the Levites among the camps. As they camp, so they will set out, each in position by their standards.
The Camp of Ephraim
On the west side will be the standard of the camp of Ephraim by their divisions. The leader of the Ephraimites will be Elishama son of Ammihud, and his division, those counted, forty thousand five hundred. Next to him will be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the Manassites will be Gamaliel son of Pedahzur, and his division, those counted, thirty-two thousand two hundred. Then the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the Benjaminites will be Abidan son of Gideoni, and his division, those counted, thirty-five thousand four hundred. All those counted of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred eight thousand one hundred by their divisions. They will set out third.
The Camp of Dan
On the north side will be the standard of the camp of Dan by their divisions. The leader of the Danites will be Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai, and his division, those counted, sixty-two thousand seven hundred. Those camping next to him will be the tribe of Asher. The leader of the Asherites will be Pagiel son of Ochran, and his division, those counted, forty-one thousand five hundred. Then the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the Naphtalites will be Ahira son of Enan, and his division, those counted, fifty-three thousand four hundred. All those counted of the camp of Dan were one hundred fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They will set out last by their standards.
Israel Encamps as Commanded
These are those counted from the Israelites by their ancestral houses. All those counted in the camps by their divisions were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty. But the Levites were not counted among the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses. Thus the Israelites did. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, each by clan and ancestral house.
