The Camps Around the Tent of Meeting

1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 2“The Israelites shall camp, each by their own standard, with the banners of their ancestral houses. They shall camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance.

The Camp of Judah

3Those camping on the east side, toward the sunrise, shall be under the standard of the camp of Judah by their divisions. The leader of the Judahites shall be Nahshon son of Amminadab, 4and his division, those counted, seventy-four thousand six hundred. 5Those camping next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the Issacharites shall be Nethanel son of Zuar, 6and his division, those counted, fifty-four thousand four hundred. 7Then the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the Zebulunites shall be Eliab son of Helon, 8and his division, those counted, fifty-seven thousand four hundred. 9All those counted of the camp of Judah were one hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred by their divisions. They shall set out first.

The Camp of Reuben

10On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben by their divisions. The leader of the Reubenites shall be Elizur son of Shedeur, 11and his division, those counted, forty-six thousand five hundred. 12Those camping next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the Simeonites shall be Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai, 13and his division, those counted, fifty-nine thousand three hundred. 14Then the tribe of Gad. The leader of the Gadites shall be Eliasaph son of Reuel, 15and his division, those counted, forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. 16All those counted of the camp of Reuben were one hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred fifty by their divisions. They shall set out second.

The Tent of Meeting in the Center

17Then the Tent of Meeting shall set out, with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps. As they camp, so they shall set out, each in position by their standards.

The Camp of Ephraim

18On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim by their divisions. The leader of the Ephraimites shall be Elishama son of Ammihud, 19and his division, those counted, forty thousand five hundred. 20Next to him shall be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the Manassites shall be Gamaliel son of Pedahzur, 21and his division, those counted, thirty-two thousand two hundred. 22Then the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the Benjaminites shall be Abidan son of Gideoni, 23and his division, those counted, thirty-five thousand four hundred. 24All those counted of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred eight thousand one hundred by their divisions. They shall set out third.

The Camp of Dan

25On the north side shall be the standard of the camp of Dan by their divisions. The leader of the Danites shall be Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai, 26and his division, those counted, sixty-two thousand seven hundred. 27Those camping next to him shall be the tribe of Asher. The leader of the Asherites shall be Pagiel son of Ochran, 28and his division, those counted, forty-one thousand five hundred. 29Then the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the Naphtalites shall be Ahira son of Enan, 30and his division, those counted, fifty-three thousand four hundred. 31All those counted of the camp of Dan were one hundred fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They shall set out last by their standards.

Israel Encamps as Commanded

32These are those counted from the Israelites by their ancestral houses. All those counted in the camps by their divisions were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty. 33But the Levites were not counted among the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses. 34Thus the Israelites did. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, each by clan and ancestral house.
