Nahum 2
The Shatterer Comes against Nineveh
A shatterer has come up against you.
Guard the fortress!
Watch the road!
Strengthen your body!
Gather all your strength!
For the LORD is restoring
the majesty of Jacob
as the majesty of Israel,
though plunderers have plundered them
and ruined their vine branches.
Chariots Rush through the Streets
The shields of the warriors are red;
the soldiers are clothed in scarlet.
The chariots flash like fire
on the day they are prepared,
and the cypress spears are brandished.
The chariots race wildly through the streets;
they rush through the squares.
Their appearance is like torches;
they dart like lightning.
He remembers his nobles;
they stumble as they advance.
They hurry to the wall,
and the siege shelter is set in place.
The river gates are opened,
and the palace melts away.
Nineveh Is Carried Away
It is decreed:
she is stripped and carried away.
Her servant women moan like doves,
beating upon their hearts.
Nineveh has been like a pool of water,
but now its waters are fleeing.
“Stop! Stop!”
But no one turns back.
Plunder the silver!
Plunder the gold!
There is no end to the treasure,
an abundance of every precious thing.
Empty, emptied, and devastated!
Hearts melt,
knees tremble,
anguish is in every body,
and every face grows pale.
Where Is the Lions' Den?
Where is the lions' den,
the feeding place of the young lions,
where lion and lioness walked,
and the lion's cub,
with no one to make them afraid?
The lion tore enough for the cubs
and strangled prey for the lionesses.
The lion filled caves with prey
and dens with torn flesh.
I Am against You
“Look, I am against you,”
says the LORD of Hosts.
“I will burn your chariots in smoke,
and the sword will devour your young lions.
I will cut off your prey from the earth,
and the voice of your messengers
will be heard no more.”
