Luke 19

Jesus and Zacchaeus

1Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2Look—a man named Zacchaeus was there. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3He was trying to see who Jesus was but could not because of the crowd, since he was short. 4So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, because he was about to pass that way. 5When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, because today I must stay at your house.” 6Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed him with joy. 7When everyone saw this, they began grumbling, “He has gone in to stay with a sinful man.” 8But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I repay four times as much.” 9Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
