Leviticus 9
The Eighth Day
On the eighth day Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. He said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a bull calf for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without defect, and present them before the LORD. Speak to the Israelites, saying: Take a male goat for a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, each a year old and without defect, for a burnt offering, and an ox and a ram for sacrifices of well-being to sacrifice before the LORD, and a grain offering mixed with oil, for today the LORD will appear to you.”
They brought what Moses commanded before the Tent of Meeting. The whole congregation drew near and stood before the LORD. Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded you to do, so that the glory of the LORD may appear to you.” Then Moses said to Aaron, “Draw near to the altar and prepare your sin offering and your burnt offering, making atonement for yourself and for the people. Then prepare the people’s offering and make atonement for them, as the LORD commanded.”
Aaron Offers for Himself
Aaron drew near to the altar and slaughtered the calf of the sin offering that was for himself. Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him. He dipped his finger in the blood, put it on the horns of the altar, and poured the blood at the base of the altar. He turned the fat, the kidneys, and the appendage of the liver from the sin offering into smoke on the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses. The flesh and skin he burned with fire outside the camp. Then he slaughtered the burnt offering. Aaron’s sons handed the blood to him, and he dashed it against all sides of the altar. They handed him the burnt offering piece by piece, together with the head, and he turned them into smoke on the altar. He washed the entrails and legs and turned them into smoke with the burnt offering on the altar.
Aaron Offers for the People
Then Aaron presented the people’s offering. He took the goat of the sin offering for the people, slaughtered it, and offered it for sin like the first. He presented the burnt offering and prepared it according to the ordinance. He presented the grain offering, filled his hand from it, and turned it into smoke on the altar, in addition to the morning burnt offering. Then he slaughtered the ox and the ram, the sacrifice of well-being for the people. Aaron’s sons handed the blood to him, and he dashed it against all sides of the altar. They also handed him the fat of the ox and ram—the fat tail, the fat covering the entrails, the kidneys, and the appendage of the liver. They placed the fat portions on the breasts, and he turned the fat into smoke on the altar. Aaron elevated the breasts and the right thigh as an elevation offering before the LORD, as Moses commanded.
The Glory of the LORD Appears
Aaron lifted his hands toward the people and blessed them. Then he came down after preparing the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the sacrifices of well-being. Moses and Aaron entered the Tent of Meeting. When they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. Fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.
