The Burnt Offering from the Herd

1The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying, 2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD from the livestock, you may bring your offering from the herd or from the flock.

3If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, the person shall present a male without defect. It shall be presented at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting so that it may be accepted before the LORD. 4The person shall lay a hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on that person’s behalf to make atonement. 5The bull shall be slaughtered before the LORD. Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall bring forward the blood and dash the blood against all sides of the altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. 6The burnt offering shall be skinned and cut into its pieces. 7The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. 8Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat upon the wood that is on the fire on the altar. 9The entrails and legs shall be washed with water. Then the priest shall turn all of it into smoke on the altar as a burnt offering, an offering by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

The Burnt Offering from the Flock

10If the offering is from the flock—from the sheep or from the goats—as a burnt offering, the person shall present a male without defect. 11It shall be slaughtered on the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall dash its blood against all sides of the altar. 12It shall be cut into its pieces, with its head and its fat, and the priest shall arrange them upon the wood that is on the fire on the altar. 13The entrails and the legs shall be washed with water. The priest shall present all of it and turn it into smoke on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

The Burnt Offering of Birds

14If the offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, the person shall bring the offering from turtledoves or young pigeons. 15The priest shall bring it to the altar, pinch off its head, and turn the head into smoke on the altar. Its blood shall be drained against the side of the altar. 16The priest shall remove its crop with its contents and throw it beside the altar on the east side, in the place for ashes. 17The priest shall tear it open by its wings without dividing it completely. Then the priest shall turn it into smoke on the altar, upon the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, an offering by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
