Job 32
Elihu Becomes Angry
Then these three men stopped answering Job because he was righteous in his own eyes. But the anger of Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, from the clan of Ram, burned against Job because he declared himself righteous rather than God. His anger also burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, yet they had condemned Job. Now Elihu had waited for Job with words because they were older than he. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men, his anger burned.
I Am Young, and You Are Aged
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said:
“I am young in days,
and you are aged;
therefore I was timid and afraid
to declare my knowledge to you.
I said, ‘Let days speak,
and many years teach wisdom.’
But truly it is the spirit in a human,
the breath of the Almighty,
that gives them understanding.
It is not the great who are wise,
nor do the aged always understand justice.
Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me;
I also will declare my knowledge.’
I Waited for Your Words
Look, I waited for your words;
I gave ear to your understandings
until you searched out what to say.
I gave you my attention,
and look, there was no one who corrected Job,
no one among you who answered his words.
Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom;
God will drive him away, not a man.’
He did not arrange his words against me,
and I will not answer him with your speeches.
I Am Full of Words
They are dismayed; they answer no more;
words have departed from them.
And shall I wait because they do not speak,
because they stand there and answer no more?
I also will answer my share;
I also will declare my knowledge.
For I am full of words;
the spirit within me constrains me.
Look, my belly is like wine with no vent;
like new wineskins it is ready to burst.
I will speak so that I may find relief;
I will open my lips and answer.
Please let me not show partiality to anyone,
and let me not flatter any human.
For I do not know how to flatter;
if I did, my Maker would soon carry me away.”
