Job 27

I Will Not Put Away My Integrity

Job again took up his discourse and said: “As God lives, who has taken away my justice,
and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
as long as my breath is in me
and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
my lips will surely not speak injustice,
and my tongue will not utter deceit.
Far be it from me to declare you righteous!
Until I expire, I will not put away my integrity from me.
I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go;
my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.

Let My Enemy Be Like the Wicked

Let my enemy be like the wicked,
and the one who rises against me like the unjust.
For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off,
when God takes away his life?
Will God hear his cry
when distress comes upon him?
Will he delight himself in the Almighty?
Will he call upon God at all times?

I Will Teach You About the Hand of God

I will teach you about the hand of God;
what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
Look, all of you have seen it.
Why then do you become completely empty?

This Is the Portion of a Wicked Man

This is the portion of a wicked man with God,
and the inheritance ruthless people receive from the Almighty:
If his children multiply, it is for the sword,
and his offspring will not be satisfied with bread.
Those who survive him will be buried by death,
and his widows will not weep.
Though he heaps up silver like dust
and prepares clothing like clay,
he may prepare it, but the righteous will wear it,
and the innocent will divide the silver.
He builds his house like a moth,
like a shelter a watchman makes.
He lies down rich, but he will not do so again;
he opens his eyes, and it is gone.
Terrors overtake him like waters;
at night a whirlwind steals him away.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone;
it sweeps him from his place.
It hurls itself against him and does not spare;
he desperately flees from its hand.
It claps its hands at him
and hisses him out of his place.”
