The sword against the Philistines

1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza: 2This is what the LORD says:
“Look! Waters rise from the north
and become an overflowing torrent.
They flood the land and everything in it,
the towns and those who live there.
People cry out;
everyone in the land wails. 3At the pounding hooves of his stallions,
the crash of his chariots,
the roar of his wheels,
fathers do not turn back for their children;
their hands hang limp. 4For the day is coming
to destroy all the Philistines,
to cut off every surviving helper
from Tyre and Sidon.
The LORD is destroying the Philistines,
the remnant from the coastland of Caphtor. 5Baldness has come upon Gaza;
Ashkelon is silenced.
Remnant of their valley,
how long will you cut yourself? 6Alas, sword of the LORD!
How long before you rest?
Return to your sheath;
be still and silent! 7How can you rest,
when the LORD has commanded it?
Against Ashkelon and the seacoast—
there he has assigned it.”
