Jeremiah 45
A Word to Baruch
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words in a book from the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:
“Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning you, Baruch:
You said,
‘Woe to me!
For the LORD has added grief to my pain.
I am weary with my groaning,
and I find no rest.’
Do Not Seek Great Things for Yourself
“Thus you shall say to him: Thus says the LORD:
Look, what I built
I am tearing down,
and what I planted
I am uprooting—
that is, this whole land.
And you—do you seek great things for yourself?
Do not seek them.
For look, I am bringing disaster
upon all flesh,” says the LORD,
“but I will give you your life as plunder
in every place where you go.”
