Hosea 7

When I Would Heal Israel

When I would heal Israel,
the guilt of Ephraim is uncovered
and the evil deeds of Samaria,
for they practice falsehood.
A thief enters,
and a band raids outside.
But they do not say in their hearts
that I remember all their evil.
Now their deeds surround them;
they are before my face.

They Make the King Glad with Evil

With their evil they make the king glad,
and with their lies the officials.
All of them are adulterers;
they are like an oven heated by a baker
who stops stirring the fire
from kneading the dough
until it is leavened.
On the day of our king
the officials became sick
with the heat of wine;
he stretched out his hand
with scoffers.
For they approach with their heart
like an oven in their plotting.
All night their anger sleeps;
in the morning it burns
like a flaming fire.
All of them are hot like an oven,
and they devour their rulers.
All their kings have fallen;
none of them calls to me.

Ephraim Is a Cake Not Turned

Ephraim mixes himself
among the peoples.
Ephraim is a cake
not turned.
Strangers devour his strength,
but he does not know it.
Gray hairs are also sprinkled on him,
but he does not know it.
The pride of Israel
testifies to his face,
yet they do not return
to the LORD their God
or seek him
for all this.

Like a Dove without Sense

Ephraim has become
like a dove, simple and without heart:
they call to Egypt;
they go to Assyria.
As they go,
I will spread my net over them;
I will bring them down
like birds of the heavens.
I will discipline them
according to the report to their congregation.

They Flee from Me

Woe to them,
for they have fled from me!
Destruction to them,
for they have rebelled against me!
I would redeem them,
but they speak lies against me.
They do not cry out to me
from their heart,
but they wail upon their beds.
For grain and new wine
they gather themselves;
they turn against me.
Though I trained
and strengthened their arms,
they devise evil against me.
They return,
but not upward.
They are like a deceptive bow.
Their officials will fall by the sword
because of the rage of their tongue.
This will be their mockery
in the land of Egypt.
