Genesis 5

The Family of Adam

1This is the written account of Adam's family. When God created humanity, God made them in God's likeness. 2God created them male and female, blessed them, and named them Humanity on the day they were created.

3At 130 years old, Adam became the father of a son in his likeness, bearing his image. He named him Seth. 4After Seth's birth, Adam lived another 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5Adam lived 930 years in all. Then he died.

The Generations Continue

6Seth was 105 years old when he became the father of Enosh. 7After Enosh's birth, Seth lived another 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8Seth lived 912 years in all. Then he died.

9Enosh was 90 years old when he became the father of Kenan. 10After Kenan's birth, Enosh lived another 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11Enosh lived 905 years in all. Then he died.

12Kenan was 70 years old when he became the father of Mahalalel. 13After Mahalalel's birth, Kenan lived another 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14Kenan lived 910 years in all. Then he died.

15Mahalalel was 65 years old when he became the father of Jared. 16After Jared's birth, Mahalalel lived another 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17Mahalalel lived 895 years in all. Then he died.

18Jared was 162 years old when he became the father of Enoch. 19After Enoch's birth, Jared lived another 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20Jared lived 962 years in all. Then he died.

Enoch Walks with God

21Enoch was 65 years old when he became the father of Methuselah. 22After Methuselah's birth, Enoch walked with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23Enoch lived 365 years in all. 24Enoch walked with God. Then he was no longer there, because God took him.

From Methuselah to Noah

25Methuselah was 187 years old when he became the father of Lamech. 26After Lamech's birth, Methuselah lived another 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27Methuselah lived 969 years in all. Then he died.

28Lamech was 182 years old when he became the father of a son. 29He named him Noah, saying, “He will bring us relief from our work and the painful labor of our hands on the ground the LORD has cursed.” 30After Noah's birth, Lamech lived another 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31Lamech lived 777 years in all. Then he died.

32Noah was 500 years old, and he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
