Acts 2

The Shared Life of the Community

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. All the believers were together and held everything in common. They sold property and possessions and distributed the proceeds to everyone according to each person’s need. Day after day they devoted themselves together in the temple courts and broke bread from house to house. They shared food with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And each day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

First Look

The Spirit-formed community devotes itself to apostolic teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayers. Worship, material sharing, table life, public presence, and growth appear together.

Look Closely

Luke describes repeated practices, not a program checklist. ‘Fellowship’ includes material participation. Selling possessions responds to need, while meals move between temple and homes. God adds to the community; growth is received rather than manufactured.

Power and Consequences

This portrait should inspire examination, not romantic claims that erase conflict in Acts 5-6. Sharing must include transparent distribution and attention to people overlooked by dominant language or networks.
