1 Timothy 4

Warning About False Teachers

Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared,

who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

A Good Servant of Christ Jesus

If you put these things before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being nourished in the words of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. But reject irreverent myths and old-woman tales; rather train yourself for godliness,

for bodily training is of some value, but godliness is of value in every way, holding promise for the present life and also for the life to come. The saying is trustworthy and worthy of full acceptance.

For to this end we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

Command and teach these things. Let no one despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the council of elders.

Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that your progress may be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to the teaching; continue in these things, for by doing so you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
