The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
The sons of Amram: Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. And the sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
Eleazar fathered Phinehas; Phinehas fathered Abishua.
Abishua fathered Bukki; Bukki fathered Uzzi.
Uzzi fathered Zerahiah; Zerahiah fathered Meraioth.
Meraioth fathered Amariah; Amariah fathered Ahitub.
Ahitub fathered Zadok; Zadok fathered Ahimaaz.
Ahimaaz fathered Azariah; Azariah fathered Johanan.
Johanan fathered Azariah. He was the one who served as priest in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem.
Azariah fathered Amariah; Amariah fathered Ahitub.
Ahitub fathered Zadok; Zadok fathered Shallum.
Shallum fathered Hilkiah; Hilkiah fathered Azariah.
Azariah fathered Seraiah; Seraiah fathered Jehozadak.
Jehozadak went away when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.
The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei. The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their ancestral houses:
Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son.
The sons of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son, Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son, Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Saul his son.
The sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth. Elkanah his son, Zophai his son, and Nahath his son, Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, and Elkanah his son. The sons of Samuel: Joel the firstborn, and Abijah the second.
The sons of Merari: Mahli; Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son, Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son.
These are those whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark came to rest. They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem; and they stood in their appointed order for their service.
These are people who stood, together with their sons: From the Kohathites, Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Samuel, son of Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Eliel, son of Toah, son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Mahath, son of Amasai, son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah, son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel.
His brother Asaph stood at his right hand: Asaph, son of Berechiah, son of Shimea, son of Michael, son of Baaseiah, son of Malchijah, son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah, son of Ethan, son of Zimmah, son of Shimei, son of Jahath, son of Gershom, son of Levi.
The sons of Merari, their brothers, stood on the left: Ethan, son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluk, son of Hashabiah, son of Amaziah, son of Hilkiah, son of Amzi, son of Bani, son of Shemer, son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.
Their brothers the Levites were assigned to all the service of the tabernacle, the house of God.
Yet Aaron and his sons made offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, for all the work of the most holy place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses, the servant of God, had commanded.
These are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.
These were their dwelling places, according to their encampments within their territory, for the sons of Aaron of the Kohathite family, because the lot fell to them. They gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, with its pasturelands around it. But they gave the fields of the city and its settlements to Caleb son of Jephunneh. To the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah and its pasturelands, Jattir, Eshtemoa and its pasturelands, Hilen and its pasturelands, Debir and its pasturelands, Ashan and its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh and its pasturelands. From the tribe of Benjamin: Gibeah and its pasturelands, Alemeth and its pasturelands, and Anathoth and its pasturelands. All their cities for their families were thirteen cities.
To the remaining sons of Kohath, from the family of the tribe, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities were given by lot. To the sons of Gershom, according to their families, from the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. To the sons of Merari, according to their families, from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities were given by lot.
The people of Israel gave the Levites the cities and their pasturelands. They gave by lot, from the tribe of the people of Judah, from the tribe of the people of Simeon, and from the tribe of the people of Benjamin, these cities which they named by name.
Some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities within their territory from the tribe of Ephraim. They gave them the cities of refuge: Shechem and its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer and its pasturelands, Jokmeam and its pasturelands, and Beth-horon and its pasturelands, Aijalon and its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon and its pasturelands. From the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner and its pasturelands, and Bileam and its pasturelands, for the family of the remaining sons of Kohath.
To the sons of Gershom, from the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Golan in Bashan and its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth and its pasturelands. From the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands, Ramoth and its pasturelands, and Anem and its pasturelands. From the tribe of Asher: Mashal and its pasturelands, Abdon and its pasturelands, Hukok and its pasturelands, and Rehob and its pasturelands. From the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee and its pasturelands, Hammon and its pasturelands, and Kiriathaim and its pasturelands.
To the remaining sons of Merari, from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmono and its pasturelands, and Tabor and its pasturelands. Beyond the Jordan at Jericho, east of the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer in the wilderness and its pasturelands, and Jahzah and its pasturelands, Kedemoth and its pasturelands, and Mephaath and its pasturelands. From the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead and its pasturelands, and Mahanaim and its pasturelands, Heshbon and its pasturelands, and Jazer and its pasturelands.
