1 Chronicles 24
These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron: the sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.
David, along with Zadok from the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their appointed duties in their service.
More leaders among the men were found among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, so they divided them: sixteen ancestral houses for the sons of Eleazar and eight for the sons of Ithamar, according to their ancestral houses.
They divided them by lots, these alongside those, for there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God among the sons of Eleazar and among the sons of Ithamar.
Shemaiah son of Nethanel, the scribe from among the Levites, recorded them before the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the ancestral houses of the priests and Levites: one ancestral house was selected for Eleazar, and one was selected—one was selected—for Ithamar.
The first lot came out for Jehoiarib; the second for Jedaiah; the third for Harim; the fourth for Seorim; the fifth for Malchijah; the sixth for Mijamin; the seventh for Hakkoz; the eighth for Abijah; the ninth for Jeshua; the tenth for Shecaniah; the eleventh for Eliashib; the twelfth for Jakim; the thirteenth for Huppah; the fourteenth for Jeshebeab; the fifteenth for Bilgah; the sixteenth for Immer; the seventeenth for Hezir; the eighteenth for Happizzez; the nineteenth for Pethahiah; the twentieth for Jehezkel; the twenty-first for Jakin; the twenty-second for Gamul; the twenty-third for Delaiah; the twenty-fourth for Maaziah.
These were their appointed duties for entering the house of the LORD according to their ordinance, through Aaron their father, as the LORD, God of Israel, had commanded him.
As for the remaining sons of Levi: for the sons of Amram, Shubael; for the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.
For Rehabiah: for the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief.
For the Izharites, Shelomoth; for the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath.
The sons of Jeriah: Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
The sons of Uzziel: Micah; for the sons of Micah, Shamir.
The brother of Micah: Isshiah; for the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Jaaziah, his son.
The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, his son, Shoham, Zakkur, and Ibri.
For Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.
For Kish: the sons of Kish, Jerahmeel.
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth. These were the sons of the Levites according to their ancestral houses.
They also cast lots alongside their brothers, the sons of Aaron, before King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the ancestral houses of the priests and Levites, the chief ancestral house alongside that of its younger brother.
