Practicing attention as the light draws near
Advent teaches us to watch without controlling what comes. Across five movements, communities practice hope, listen in the wilderness, notice restoration, receive holy surprise, and become ready to welcome Christ and one another.
Formation and worship
These conversations can stand on their own or accompany the connected worship series. Move between worship and formation without requiring either experience to carry everything.
Advent watchfulness deepens week by week. Each practice prepares the capacity needed for the next.
Each movement pairs a formation conversation with the worship resource for that week. Individuals, households, sessions, and congregations can also use the short practices between gatherings.
The series promise
Christ comes before our readiness and beyond our control. Advent forms a people who can attend to God’s presence, receive grace in unexpected forms, and make room for good news.
The change we hope to practice
From passive waiting, prediction, and seasonal sentiment toward practiced attention that recognizes, receives, and welcomes Christ in people and places we might otherwise overlook.
5 movements
Move in order from Attend to Make Room, Recognize, Receive, and Welcome. The weekly practices train attention so Christmas becomes encounter and witness, not merely arrival at a date.
