Psalm 94
God of Vengeance, Shine Forth
O LORD, God of vengeance,
God of vengeance, shine forth!
Rise up, Judge of the earth;
repay the proud what they deserve.
How long, O LORD, will the wicked—
how long will the wicked exult?
They pour out arrogant words;
all who do evil boast.
They crush your people, O LORD,
and afflict your inheritance.
They kill the widow and the sojourner,
and they murder the orphan.
They say, “The LORD does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
The One Who Formed the Eye Sees
Understand, you senseless among the people;
you fools, when will you become wise?
The One who planted the ear—does God not hear?
The One who formed the eye—does God not see?
The One who disciplines nations—does God not rebuke?
The One who teaches humankind—does God not know?
The LORD knows human thoughts,
that they are only breath.
Happy is the one whom you discipline, O LORD,
and whom you teach from your instruction,
to give that one rest from days of trouble,
until a pit is dug for the wicked.
For the LORD will not abandon the people
or forsake the inheritance.
For judgment will again accord with righteousness,
and all the upright in heart will follow it.
The LORD Has Become My Stronghold
Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands for me against those who do evil?
If the LORD had not been my help,
my soul would soon have dwelt in silence.
When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your steadfast love, O LORD, supported me.
When my anxious thoughts were many within me,
your consolations delighted my soul.
Can a throne of destruction be allied with you—
one that frames injustice by statute?
They band together against the life of the righteous
and condemn innocent blood.
But the LORD has become my stronghold,
and my God the rock of my refuge.
God will bring their iniquity back upon them
and destroy them by their own evil;
the LORD our God will destroy them.
