Psalm 48

The City of the Great King

1Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God, on the holy mountain. 2Beautiful in height, the joy of all the earth,
is Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King. 3God is in her citadels;
God has made known a stronghold. 4For look, the kings assembled;
they passed by together. 5They saw it and were astonished;
they panicked; they fled. 6Trembling seized them there,
anguish like a woman in labor. 7With an east wind
you shatter the ships of Tarshish. 8As we have heard, so we have seen
in the city of the LORD of Hosts,
in the city of our God.
God will establish her forever.

Steadfast Love within the Temple

9We have pondered your steadfast love, O God,
within your temple. 10As your name, O God,
so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness. 11Let Mount Zion rejoice;
let the daughters of Judah be glad
because of your judgments.

Tell the Next Generation

12Walk around Zion; go all around her;
count her towers. 13Set your hearts on her ramparts;
pass through her citadels,
so that you may tell the next generation: 14This is God, our God forever and ever;
God will guide us until death.
