Matthew 21
The king enters Jerusalem
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples ahead.
He told them, “Go into the village opposite you. You will immediately find a donkey tied there, with a colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to me.
If anyone says anything to you, say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”
This happened to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
“Tell daughter Zion:
Look, your king is coming to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed.
They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their garments on them, and he sat on them.
Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
The crowds ahead of him and behind him kept shouting:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the Lord’s name!
Hosanna in the highest!”
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken. “Who is this?” people asked.
The crowds answered, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
