Matthew 14

Jesus walks on the sea

22Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowds. 23After dismissing the crowds, he went up the mountain alone to pray. When evening came, he was there by himself. 24The boat was already many stadia from land, battered by waves because the wind was against it. 25In the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and cried out in fear. 27Jesus spoke to them at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” 28Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29“Come,” he said. Peter climbed out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the strong wind, he became afraid. Beginning to sink, he cried, “Lord, save me!” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32When they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are God’s Son.”
