Leviticus 6

Restitution for Wrong Against a Neighbor

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “If anyone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by deceiving a neighbor concerning something entrusted for safekeeping, or a pledge, or something taken by robbery, or by oppressing a neighbor, or by finding something lost and lying about it, swearing falsely in any of these things by which a person may sin, then, when that person has sinned and becomes guilty, the person shall restore what was taken by robbery, what was obtained by oppression, what was entrusted for safekeeping, or the lost thing that was found, or anything about which the person swore falsely. The person shall restore it in full and add one-fifth to it, giving it to its owner on the day the person is found guilty. Then the person shall bring to the LORD as a guilt offering a ram without defect from the flock, according to the valuation, and bring it to the priest. The priest shall make atonement for the person before the LORD, and that person shall be forgiven for whatever was done to become guilty.”

The Law of the Burnt Offering

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Command Aaron and his sons, saying: This is the law of the burnt offering. The burnt offering shall remain on the hearth upon the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it. The priest shall put on his linen garment and put linen undergarments on his body. He shall remove the ashes to which the fire has reduced the burnt offering on the altar and place them beside the altar. Then he shall take off those garments, put on other garments, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a clean place. The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it shall not go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, arrange the burnt offering on it, and turn the fat of the sacrifices of well-being into smoke on it. Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.

The Law of the Grain Offering

This is the law of the grain offering. Aaron’s sons shall present it before the LORD, in front of the altar. One of them shall take from it a handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, some of its oil, and all the frankincense that is on the grain offering, and turn its memorial portion into smoke on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. Aaron and his sons shall eat what remains. It shall be eaten unleavened in a holy place; they shall eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. It shall not be baked with yeast. I have given it as their portion from my offerings by fire. It is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. Every male among Aaron’s descendants may eat it. This shall be a perpetual portion throughout your generations from the offerings by fire to the LORD. Whatever touches them shall become holy.”

The Priestly Grain Offering

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “This is the offering that Aaron and his sons shall bring to the LORD on the day one of them is anointed: one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half in the morning and half in the evening. It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle. When it is well mixed, you shall bring it. You shall present it in baked pieces as a grain offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. The priest from among Aaron’s sons who is anointed in his place shall prepare it. It is a perpetual statute: it shall be entirely turned into smoke for the LORD. Every grain offering of a priest shall be wholly burned; it shall not be eaten.”

The Law of the Sin Offering

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying: This is the law of the sin offering. In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before the LORD. It is most holy. The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. Whatever touches its flesh shall become holy. If any of its blood is splashed on a garment, you shall wash the part splashed with blood in a holy place. An earthen vessel in which it is boiled shall be broken, but if it is boiled in a bronze vessel, that vessel shall be scoured and rinsed with water. Every male among the priests may eat it. It is most holy. But no sin offering shall be eaten if any of its blood has been brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place. It shall be burned with fire.
