Holiness in Life Together

1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.

Holiness in Daily Life

3Each of you shall fear his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God. 4Do not turn to idols, and do not make for yourselves gods of cast metal. I am the LORD your God. 5When you sacrifice an offering of well-being to the LORD, sacrifice it so that you may be accepted. 6It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day, but what remains until the third day shall be burned with fire. 7If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is an abomination; it shall not be accepted. 8The one who eats it shall bear his guilt, because he has profaned what is holy to the LORD, and that person shall be cut off from his people.

9When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edge of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10You shall not strip your vineyard bare, nor gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the resident alien. I am the LORD your God. 11You shall not steal, and you shall not deal falsely, and you shall not lie to one another. 12You shall not swear falsely by my name, and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. 13You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you through the night until morning. 14You shall not curse one who is deaf or put a stumbling block before one who is blind, but you shall fear your God. I am the LORD.

15You shall not do injustice in judgment. You shall not lift up the face of the poor or honor the face of the great, but in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. 16You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand against the blood of your neighbor. I am the LORD.

17You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you shall surely reprove your neighbor, and you shall not bear sin because of him. 18You shall not take vengeance or keep anger against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

Further Statutes of Holiness

19You shall keep my statutes. You shall not breed two kinds of your livestock together; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; and a garment made of two kinds of material shall not come upon you. 20If a man lies sexually with a woman who is a slave designated for another man, but she has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there shall be an inquiry. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free. 21He shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering. 22The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the LORD for his sin that he committed, and he shall be forgiven for his sin that he committed.

23When you come into the land and plant any tree for food, you shall regard its fruit as uncircumcised. Three years it shall be uncircumcised to you; it shall not be eaten. 24In the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the LORD. 25In the fifth year you may eat its fruit, so that its yield may increase for you. I am the LORD your God. 26You shall not eat anything with the blood. You shall not practice divination or interpret omens. 27You shall not round off the hair at the sides of your head or destroy the edges of your beard. 28You shall not make cuts in your flesh for the dead or put tattoo marks upon yourselves. I am the LORD.

29Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity. 30You shall keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary. I am the LORD. 31Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out and so become unclean by them. I am the LORD your God. 32You shall rise before gray hair and honor the face of an old person, and you shall fear your God. I am the LORD.

33When a resident alien lives with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34The resident alien who lives with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God. 35You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measures of length, weight, or quantity. 36You shall have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt. 37You shall keep all my statutes and all my judgments and do them. I am the LORD.
