Leviticus 15

A Man with a Bodily Discharge

1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge makes him unclean. 3This shall be his uncleanness because of the discharge: whether his body continues to flow with the discharge or his body is stopped from the discharge, it is his uncleanness.

4Every bed on which the man with the discharge lies shall be unclean, and everything on which he sits shall be unclean. 5Whoever touches his bed shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 6Whoever sits on anything on which the man with the discharge sat shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 7Whoever touches the body of the man with the discharge shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 8If the man with the discharge spits on someone who is clean, that person shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 9Any saddle on which the man with the discharge rides shall be unclean. 10Whoever touches anything that was under him shall be unclean until evening, and whoever carries such things shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 11Anyone whom the man with the discharge touches without first rinsing his hands in water shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 12An earthen vessel touched by the man with the discharge shall be broken, and every wooden vessel shall be rinsed in water.

Cleansing after a Discharge

13When the man with a discharge is cleansed from his discharge, he shall count seven days for his cleansing, wash his clothes, and bathe his body in fresh water; then he shall be clean. 14On the eighth day he shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons and come before the LORD to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and give them to the priest. 15The priest shall offer them, one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. The priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD concerning his discharge.

Seminal Emissions

16If a man has an emission of semen, he shall bathe his entire body in water and be unclean until evening. 17Every garment and every leather article on which semen comes shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening. 18If a man lies with a woman and there is an emission of semen, both shall bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

Menstrual Uncleanness

19When a woman has a discharge, and the discharge from her body is blood, she shall be in her menstrual uncleanness seven days. Whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. 20Everything on which she lies during her menstrual uncleanness shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean. 21Whoever touches her bed shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 22Whoever touches anything on which she sat shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 23Whether it is on the bed or on anything on which she sat, whoever touches it shall be unclean until evening. 24If a man lies with her and her menstrual flow comes upon him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.

An Abnormal Discharge of Blood

25If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days outside the time of her menstrual period, or if the discharge continues beyond her period, all the days of the discharge of her uncleanness shall be like the days of her menstrual uncleanness; she is unclean. 26Every bed on which she lies during all the days of her discharge shall be to her like the bed of her menstrual period, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean like the uncleanness of her menstrual period. 27Whoever touches these things shall be unclean and shall wash their clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Cleansing after the Discharge

28But if she is cleansed from her discharge, she shall count seven days, and afterward she shall be clean. 29On the eighth day she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. 30The priest shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for her before the LORD concerning the uncleanness of her discharge.

Protecting the Sanctuary from Uncleanness

31Thus you shall keep the Israelites separate from their uncleanness, so that they do not die in their uncleanness by defiling my tabernacle that is in their midst. 32This is the law concerning the man who has a discharge, and the man who has an emission of semen and becomes unclean by it, 33and concerning the woman during her menstrual uncleanness, and anyone, male or female, who has a discharge, and the man who lies with a woman who is unclean.
