Jeremiah 30

Write All These Words in a Book

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Write for yourself in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. For look, days are coming,” says the LORD, “when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah,” says the LORD. “I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors, and they will possess it.”

A Time of Distress for Jacob

These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah: For thus says the LORD:

“A sound of trembling we have heard,
terror and no peace.
Ask now and see:
Can a male give birth?
Why then do I see every man
with his hands on his loins
like a woman giving birth,
and every face turned pale?
Alas! For that day is great;
there is none like it.
It is a time of distress for Jacob,
yet from it he will be saved.

I Will Break His Yoke

“And it will be on that day,” says the LORD of Hosts,
“I will break his yoke from your neck
and tear off your bonds,
and strangers will no longer make him serve.
But they will serve the LORD their God
and David their king,
whom I will raise up for them.

Do Not Fear, Jacob My Servant

“And you, do not fear, Jacob my servant,”
says the LORD,
“and do not be dismayed, Israel.
For look, I am saving you from far away,
and your offspring from the land of their captivity.
Jacob will return and be quiet and at ease,
and no one will make him afraid.
For I am with you,” says the LORD,
“to save you.
Though I make a complete end
of all the nations among whom I scattered you,
of you I will not make a complete end.
I will discipline you in justice,
but I will certainly not leave you unpunished.

Your Wound Is Incurable

For thus says the LORD:

“Your breaking is incurable;
your wound is severe.
There is no one to plead your case,
no healing for your sore,
no restoration for you.
All your lovers have forgotten you;
they do not seek you.
For I struck you with the blow of an enemy,
with the discipline of a cruel one,
because your guilt was great
and your sins were numerous.
Why do you cry out over your breaking?
Your pain is incurable.
Because your guilt was great
and your sins were numerous,
I did these things to you.

Those Who Devour You Will Be Devoured

“Therefore all who devour you
will be devoured,
and all your adversaries, every one of them,
will go into captivity.
Those who plunder you will become plunder,
and all who spoil you
I will give as spoil.
For I will bring healing to you
and heal you of your wounds,”
says the LORD,
“because they called you an outcast:
‘This is Zion,
for whom no one cares.’

The City Will Be Rebuilt

Thus says the LORD:

“Look, I will restore the fortunes
of the tents of Jacob
and have compassion on his dwellings.
The city will be rebuilt upon its mound,
and the palace will stand
in its proper place.
Thanksgiving will come out from them,
and the sound of those who rejoice.
I will multiply them,
and they will not become few;
I will honor them,
and they will not become small.
Their children will be as before,
and their congregation will be established before me,
and I will attend to all who oppress them.
Their leader will be one of their own,
and their ruler will come out from their midst.
I will bring him near,
and he will approach me,
for who is this who has pledged his heart
to approach me?” says the LORD.
“And you will be my people,
and I will be your God.”

The Storm of the LORD

Look, the storm of the LORD—wrath—
has gone out,
a sweeping storm;
it will whirl upon the head
of the wicked.
The burning anger of the LORD
will not turn back
until he has done
and established the purposes of his heart.
In the latter days
you will understand this.
