Isaiah 60
Arise, Shine
Rise, shine, for your light has come!
The LORD’s glory has risen upon you.
Look, darkness covers the earth
and thick gloom the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you,
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will walk toward your light,
and kings toward the brightness of your dawn.
Lift your eyes and look around:
they have all gathered and come to you.
Your sons come from far away;
your daughters are carried on the hip.
Then you will see and beam with joy;
your heart will tremble and open wide.
For the sea’s abundance will turn toward you;
the nations’ wealth will come to you.
A flood of camels will cover you,
young camels from Midian and Ephah.
They will all come from Sheba,
carrying gold and frankincense
and proclaiming the LORD’s praises.
All Kedar’s flocks will gather to you;
Nebaioth’s rams will serve you.
They will rise as acceptable offerings on my altar,
and I will glorify my glorious house.
Who are these flying like a cloud,
like doves to their windows?
For the coastlands wait for me,
with Tarshish’s ships in the lead,
to bring your sons from far away,
their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the LORD your God,
Israel’s Holy One, who has glorified you.
Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
and their kings will serve you.
In my anger I struck you,
but in my favor I have compassion on you.
Your gates will always stand open;
day and night they will not close,
so the nations’ wealth may be brought to you,
with their kings led in procession.
For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish;
those nations will be utterly devastated.
Lebanon’s glory will come to you,
cypress, plane and pine together,
to beautify my sanctuary’s place.
I will glorify the place of my feet.
The children of those who afflicted you
will come bowing before you.
All who despised you will bow at your feet
and call you the LORD’s City,
Zion of Israel’s Holy One.
Once abandoned and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting pride,
a joy from generation to generation.
You will suck the milk of nations
and nurse at kings’ breasts.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, your Savior,
your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Instead of bronze I will bring gold;
instead of iron, silver;
instead of wood, bronze;
instead of stone, iron.
I will appoint Peace as your overseer
and Righteousness as your taskmaster.
Violence will no longer be heard in your land,
nor devastation and destruction within your borders.
You will call your walls Salvation
and your gates Praise.
The sun will no longer be your light by day,
nor the moon give you brightness.
The LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God your glory.
Your sun will never again set,
nor your moon withdraw,
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of mourning will end.
All your people will be righteous;
they will possess the land forever—
a shoot I planted, the work of my hands,
that I may be glorified.
The smallest will become a thousand,
the least a mighty nation.
I am the LORD;
at its time I will hasten it.
