Isaiah 20
A Sign Concerning Egypt and Cush
In the year the commander sent by Sargon king of Assyria came to Ashdod, fought against it, and captured it, the LORD spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz: “Go, loosen the sackcloth from your waist and take the sandals from your feet.” He did so, walking naked and barefoot. The LORD said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years, a sign and wonder concerning Egypt and Cush, so the king of Assyria will lead Egypt’s captives and Cush’s exiles, young and old, naked and barefoot, with buttocks exposed—Egypt’s nakedness. They will be dismayed and ashamed of Cush, their hope, and Egypt, their pride.
On that day the inhabitants of this coastland will say, ‘Look what has happened to our hope, to those we fled to for help and rescue from Assyria’s king! How, then, can we escape?’”
