Isaiah 2
The Mountain of the LORD and the Day of the LORD
The word Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
In days to come,
the mountain of the LORD’s house
will stand firm above the mountains,
raised above the hills.
All nations will stream toward it.
Many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the LORD’s mountain,
to the house of Jacob’s God.
He will teach us his ways,
and we will walk his paths.”
For instruction will go out from Zion,
and the LORD’s word from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations
and settle disputes for many peoples.
They will hammer their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not lift sword against nation;
they will no longer learn war.
House of Jacob, come!
Let us walk in the LORD’s light.
You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob.
They are full of practices from the east,
of diviners like the Philistines;
they clasp hands with foreigners.
Their land is full of silver and gold,
with no end to their treasures;
their land is full of horses,
with no end to their chariots.
Their land is full of idols.
They bow to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.
Humanity bows down; people are brought low.
Do not forgive them.
Go into the rocks; hide in the dust
from the terror of the LORD,
from the splendor of his majesty.
Humanity’s proud eyes will be lowered;
human arrogance will bow.
The LORD alone will be exalted on that day.
For the LORD of hosts has a day
against everything proud and lofty,
everything raised high—it will be brought low;
against all Lebanon’s cedars, tall and towering,
and all Bashan’s oaks;
against all the high mountains
and every towering hill;
against every lofty tower
and every fortified wall;
against all the ships of Tarshish
and every splendid vessel.
Human arrogance will bow;
humanity’s pride will be lowered.
The LORD alone will be exalted on that day.
The idols will disappear completely.
People will enter caves in the rocks
and holes in the earth,
from the terror of the LORD,
from the splendor of his majesty,
when he rises to make the earth tremble.
On that day people will throw away
the silver idols and gold idols
made for them to worship—
throw them to the moles and bats—
to enter clefts in the rocks
and cracks in the cliffs,
from the terror of the LORD,
from the splendor of his majesty,
when he rises to make the earth tremble.
Stop relying on human beings,
whose breath is in their nostrils.
What are they worth?
