Hebrews 5
The Great Priest Appointed by God
For every high priest chosen from among mortals is appointed on behalf of mortals in matters pertaining to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. The high priest is able to deal gently with the ignorant and the wayward, since the high priest is also surrounded by weakness. And because of this, the high priest is obligated to offer sacrifices for their own sins as well as for the people. And no one takes this honor upon themselves, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
So also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you,” just as God says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”
The Son Learns Obedience Through Suffering
In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death; and he was heard because of his reverent devotion. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And having been made complete, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull in hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the beginning of the words of God. You need milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness, since they are a child. But solid food is for the mature—for those whose powers of discernment have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.
