Habakkuk 3

A Prayer of Habakkuk

A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth.

In Wrath Remember Compassion

O LORD, I have heard your report;
I fear.

O LORD, revive your work
in the midst of the years;
in the midst of the years
make it known.

In wrath,
remember compassion.

God Comes from Teman

God comes from Teman,
and the Holy One
from Mount Paran.
Selah.

His splendor covers the heavens,
and the earth is full
of his praise.
His brightness is like the light;
rays flash from his hand,
and there
his power is hidden.
Plague goes before him,
and pestilence goes out
at his feet.

The Ancient Mountains Shatter

He stands
and shakes the earth;
he looks
and makes the nations tremble.

The everlasting mountains
are shattered;
the ancient hills
sink down.

His are
the ways of eternity.
Under trouble
I see the tents of Cushan;
the curtains of the land of Midian
tremble.

Was Your Wrath against the Rivers?

Was your anger against the rivers, O LORD?
Was your anger against the rivers,
or your wrath against the sea,
when you rode upon your horses,
upon your chariots of salvation?
You uncovered your bow;
sworn were the shafts
of your word.
Selah.

You split the earth
with rivers.
The mountains see you
and writhe.
A torrent of waters passes by;
the deep gives its voice
and lifts its hands on high.
Sun and moon
stand in their lofty place
at the light of your arrows as they go,
at the brightness
of the lightning of your spear.

You Went Out to Save Your People

In indignation
you march through the earth;
in anger
you thresh the nations.
You went out
for the salvation of your people,
for the salvation
of your anointed.

You crushed the head
from the house of the wicked,
laying bare the foundation
to the neck.
Selah.
You pierced the head
of his warriors
with his own shafts.

They stormed out
to scatter me;
their exultation was
as if to devour the poor
in secret.
You trod the sea
with your horses,
the churning
of mighty waters.

I Wait Quietly for the Day of Distress

I hear,
and my inward parts tremble;
at the sound
my lips quiver.

Decay enters my bones,
and beneath me I tremble.

Yet I wait quietly
for the day of distress
to come upon the people
who attack us.

Yet I Will Rejoice in the LORD

Though the fig tree does not blossom,
and there is no fruit on the vines;
though the produce of the olive fails,
and the fields yield no food;
though the flock is cut off from the fold,
and there are no cattle in the stalls—
yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will exult
in the God of my salvation.
The LORD, my Lord,
is my strength.

He makes my feet
like the feet of a deer
and makes me tread
upon my heights.

To the director,
with my stringed instruments.
