Ezekiel 19

And you, raise a lament for the princes of Israel,

and say: What was your mother? A lioness among lions! She lay down among young lions; she raised her cubs.

She brought up one of her cubs; it became a young lion, and it learned to tear prey; it devoured men.

Nations heard about it; it was caught in their pit, and they brought it with hooks to the land of Egypt.

When she saw that she waited and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.

And he walked among the lions, he became a young lion, and he learned to catch prey; he devoured men.

He ravaged their strongholds, and their cities were laid waste; the land and everything in it was appalled at the sound of his roaring.

Then nations set against him from the surrounding provinces, they spread their net over him; he was caught in their pit.

They put him in a cage with hooks and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into fortresses so that his voice would no longer be heard on the mountains of Israel.

Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, planted by the waters; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant waters.

It had strong branches fit for rulers’ scepters, it reached high among the clouds; it was seen for its height with the multitude of its branches.

But it was uprooted in fury, thrown to the ground; the east wind withered its fruit; its strong branches were torn off and dried up; fire consumed them.

Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.

A fire has gone out from its branch; it has consumed its fruit so that there is no strong branch left on it, no scepter for ruling. This is a lament, and it was for lamentation.
