Exodus 31

Bezalel and Oholiab

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and every kind of craftsmanship, to devise skilled designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, in carving wood, and in working in every kind of craftsmanship. And look, I have appointed with him Oholiab son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan. In the heart of all who are wise of heart I have put wisdom, so that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony, the cover that is upon it, and all the furnishings of the tent; the table and its utensils, the pure lampstand and all its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, the basin and its stand, the woven garments, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons for priestly service, the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.”

The Sabbath Is a Sign

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “And you, speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Surely you shall keep my Sabbaths, for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, so that you may know that I am the LORD who consecrates you. You shall keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Whoever profanes it shall surely be put to death. For whoever does work on it, that life shall be cut off from the midst of his people. Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death. The children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. It is a sign forever between me and the children of Israel, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he ceased and was refreshed.’”

The Tablets of Testimony

When he finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.
