Solomon Begins the Temple
Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to David his father, at the place David had prepared, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. He began to build on the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign. These are the foundations Solomon laid for building the house of God: the length in cubits according to the former measure was sixty cubits, and the width twenty cubits. The porch that was in front of the house was twenty cubits long, corresponding to the width of the house, and its height was one hundred twenty cubits. He overlaid its interior with pure gold. The great house he paneled with cypress wood, overlaid it with fine gold, and put palm trees and chains upon it. He adorned the house with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was gold from Parvaim. He overlaid the house—the beams, thresholds, walls, and doors—with gold and carved cherubim on the walls.
The Most Holy Place
He made the house of the Most Holy Place. Its length corresponded to the width of the house, twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits. He overlaid it with six hundred talents of fine gold. The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold, and he overlaid the upper rooms with gold. In the house of the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of sculptured work and overlaid them with gold. The wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits and touched the wall of the house, and its other wing was five cubits and touched the wing of the other cherub. One wing of the second cherub was five cubits and touched the wall of the house, and its other wing was five cubits and joined the wing of the first cherub. The wings of these cherubim spread out twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.
The Curtain and Pillars
He made the curtain of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen and worked cherubim into it. In front of the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits high, and the capital on top of each was five cubits. He made chains in the inner sanctuary and put them on the tops of the pillars, and he made one hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains. He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and one on the left. He called the name of the one on the right Jachin and the name of the one on the left Boaz.
