1 Timothy 2

Prayer for Everyone

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and everyone in positions of authority, so that we may live a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable before God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at its proper time. For this I was appointed a herald and apostle—I am telling the truth; I am not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in trust and truth.

Prayer and Conduct in the Assembly

Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting holy hands without anger or argument. Likewise, women should adorn themselves in respectable clothing, with modesty and self-control, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing, but with good works, as is fitting for women who profess reverence for God. Let a woman learn in quietness with full receptiveness. I am not permitting a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to be in quietness. For Adam was formed first, then Eve, and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, being deceived, came into transgression. Yet she will be saved through childbearing, if they remain in trust, love, and holiness with self-control.
