1 Thessalonians 1
Greeting and Thanksgiving
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work produced by trust, your labor from love, and your endurance from hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. Brothers and sisters loved by God, we know that he has chosen you, because our good news came to you not in word only but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with full conviction. You know what kind of people we were among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in much affliction with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you the Lord’s word has sounded out not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your trust toward God has gone out everywhere, so that we have no need to say anything. They themselves report what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
