1 Chronicles 29

1Then King David said to the whole assembly, “Solomon my son, the one God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for this fortress is not for a human being, but for the LORD God.

2With all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God: gold for the goldwork, silver for the silverwork, bronze for the bronzework, iron for the ironwork, and wood for the woodwork; onyx stones and stones for setting, antimony and colored stones, every kind of precious stone, and marble in abundance.

3Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I have a personal treasure of gold and silver, and I have given it to the house of my God, beyond all that I have prepared for the holy house:

4three thousand talents of gold from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the buildings;

5gold for the goldwork, silver for the silverwork, and for every work by the hands of craftspeople. Who, then, is willing to fill their hand today for the LORD?”

6Then the heads of the families, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king’s work gave willingly.

7They gave for the service of God’s house five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

8Those who possessed stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9Then the people rejoiced because of their willingness, for with a whole heart they had given willingly to the LORD. King David also rejoiced with great joy.

10Then David blessed the LORD in the sight of the whole assembly. David said:
“Blessed are you, LORD, God of Israel our father,
from everlasting to everlasting.

11Yours, LORD, are the greatness and the power
and the splendor and the victory and the majesty,
for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.
Yours, LORD, is the kingdom,
and you are exalted as head over all.

12Riches and honor come from you,
and you rule over all.
In your hand are power and might,
and in your hand it is to make great
and to strengthen all.

13Now, our God, we give thanks to you
and praise your glorious name.

14“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should have strength to give willingly like this? For everything comes from you, and from your hand we have given to you.

15For we are sojourners before you, and residents, like all our ancestors. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.

16the LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand; it all belongs to you.

17I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly given all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here giving willingly to you with joy.

18LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, preserve this forever as the purpose of the thoughts of your people’s heart, and direct their heart toward you.

19Give Solomon my son a whole heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, to do all of them, and to build the fortress for which I have made preparation.”

20Then David said to the whole assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” So the whole assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and they bowed down and prostrated themselves before the LORD and before the king.

21The next day they offered sacrifices to the LORD and presented burnt offerings to the LORD: one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

22They ate and drank before the LORD that day with great joy. Then they made Solomon son of David king a second time, and anointed him for the LORD as leader, and Zadok as priest.

23So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.

24All the leaders and the warriors, and also all the sons of King David, pledged allegiance to King Solomon.

25The LORD made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as no king before him over Israel had possessed.

26David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

28He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

29Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer,

30together with all his reign and his power, and the times that passed over him and over Israel and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
